Oikeutta eläimille (“Justice for Animals”) is a Finnish animal rights organization working to challenge the exploitation of animals and to elevate their status in society. We believe the relationship between humans and other animals should be based on respect and reciprocity — not profit. Animals are sentient, conscious individuals who deserve the right to life and self-determination.
The most prominent part of our work is bringing to light the reality of animal farms and slaughterhouses.
Since 1995, we’ve pursued these goals through a variety of approaches:
- Grassroots activism. We build community, educate, and empower new activists to advocate for animals and demand change from decision-makers.
- Corporate engagement: We collaborate with businesses, encouraging them to adopt practices that consider the interests of animals.
- Exposing cruelty: Through undercover investigations, we reveal the hidden suffering behind closed doors in Finnish farms and slaughterhouses.
- Shifting mindsets and eating habits: We promote plant-based living and challenge societal attitudes toward animals through public education and campaigns like the widely popular Vegaanihaaste / Vegan Challenge.
Oikeutta eläimille is active across Finland, with local groups organizing events, protests, school talks, and outreach. At the heart of our work is a commitment to justice — not just for animals, but for everyone. We oppose all forms of discrimination and remain independent from political parties and religious affiliations.
Exposing the hidden reality of animal farming in Finland
For nearly two decades, Oikeutta eläimille has uncovered the often unseen world of Finnish animal farming through undercover photos and videos. Our investigations have documented conditions inside pig, cow, and chicken farms, as well as slaughterhouses, fur farms, and more recently, fish farms — offering the public a rare, unfiltered look behind closed doors.
Undercover investigations reveal systemic and deeply troubling issues: cramped cages, unsanitary conditions, untreated injuries and illnesses, dead animals left among the living, and instances of outright violence. Beyond physical suffering, animals endure severe psychological distress in barren environments that deny them natural behaviors and stimulation.
Our findings have sparked national conversation and received wide coverage in Finnish media outlets and have been featured in television documentaries. Many of the investigations have also sparked interest from international media outlets. They have challenged the public narrative around animal agriculture and placed pressure on lawmakers to address the urgent need for stricter regulation and improved oversight.
By bringing these realities to light, we aim to foster greater awareness, encourage compassionate choices, and inspire people to rethink their relationship with animals — and the impact of their consumption habits.

Helping people discover plant-based eating
Vegaanihaaste (Vegan Challenge) inspires Finnish people to try vegan for a month and beyond. We provide participants with guidance, recipes, practical tips, resources, and inspiration to help them adopt a plant-based diet, making it easier to explore its benefits for health, the environment, and animals.
The challenge has been organized since 2013 and we have had more than 225,000 participants over the years. The feedback speaks for itself: 99% of participants recommend the challenge to others.
